Whether it's a water filter tank, a water filter tap or a water purifier, most water filtration products purify your water by running a cartridge.
According to different filtering purposes and requirements, the substances in the filter cartridge will be different. Here are the main types of water filter materials you can find.
Activated carbon water filter material
Activated carbon is a porous type of common carbon.
The micropores on the surface of activated carbon enable it to react with the organic chemicals in the unfiltered water rapidly, thus purifying the water.
Most cartridges on the market have activated carbon.
Activated carbon also plays a role in the removal of odor and chloride in water.
However, because the activated carbon itself contains a lot of impurities, it is difficult to avoid the growth of bacteria in the activated carbon filter.
As a result, cartridges need to be replaced more frequently.
Ceramic water filter material
The filter cartridge made of diatom ceramic can filter out the impurities such as sediment, chlorine, lead and some microorganisms in unfiltered water.
The user should regularly remove impurities from the ink cartridge. A brush, a cloth and some rubbing will do.
Hollow fiber membrane water filter material
Hollow fiber membrane is made of acrylic acid and other artificial polymers.
The filaments of the membrane are long and porous and can capture bacteria, fungi, parasites, rust and sediment.
Nonwoven fabric water filter material
Nonwoven fabric is a kind of material suitable for water filtration because of its complex structure and large thickness.
This material is used to filter large impurities such as grit and sand.
Ion exchange water filter material
Ion exchange water filters are usually used to reduce the hardness of water (i.e. the mineral content of water).
Coffee lovers are no strangers to this kind of filter, because hard water will destroy the taste of coffee.
The filter can remove mineral ions such as calcium and magnesium by polymer combined with positive ions. Some ion exchange filters also filter out nitrates and sulfates.
